If you employ someone, you are legally bound by the Employers Liability Compulsory Insurance Act 1969 to have Employers Liability insurance in force.
This ensures that if an employee is injured during the course of their employment then they can claim compensation from you.
What we cover
The limit of liability is £10 million.
Employers liability can come as part of a package policy if, for example, you were taking out shop or office insurance. It can also be covered as an “add on” under Public Liability insurance.
When you take out Employers Liability insurance cover, you will be given a certificate of Employers Liability that you need to display in your workplace. You can face up to a £1000 fine by Health and Safety executive inspectors for failure to do so.
You are also asked to retain copies of the certificate of insurance for at least 40 years. This is for your own protection as some diseases can occur many years after.
